Homework
Monday – On Monday your child will bring home his/her individualized spelling words to practice throughout the week these are words that are personalized to them depending on their success. In addition they will need to complete and return their spelling practice sheet by Friday.
Requirements on spelling practice sheet
-Write each of their personal and content words 10 times each
-Put each of their personal and content words into sentences
-Arrange personal words into a paragraph that makes sense
Monday – On Monday your child will also receive a weekly Math Review (5-10 math problems). Complete and return by Friday.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday- On these days your child might also receive math practice directly based on the days lesson. This math practice will be short, normally 2-5 problems.
Expectation:
-My goal is to send homework that is practice from our days/weeks of learning. If they should happen to struggle, I ask that they not become frustrated or overwhelmed but rather write a question or two on the particular problem and come to school prepared to get help.
-Homework is readable
-Student’s thinking is present through his/her work
-Organized with problem numbers and spacings
Weekly: Each week your child is required to be reading 100 minutes outside of school. In order to meet the requirement, they need to get their planner signed by a parent or guardian. Complete and return with a signature by Friday. The at home reading may be combined with the book review reading.
Monthly- Each month students will read at least one book focused around a monthly genre and complete a four paragraph book review. These book reviews will be turned into Mrs. Barcellos
September – choice: due Friday, October 1.
October – biography: due Friday, October 29.

A book review consists of four paragraphs. Students can use their Writers Express book as a reference. Use pages 166-171. Each paragraph will include the following information:
Paragraph 1: The title, author and any personal feelings about the book.
Paragraph 2: What the book is about. This should include the setting, characters, events of the
story and a hint about the conflict and the solution.
Paragraph 3: What you liked about the book with examples and/or evidence.
Paragraph 4: The book’s theme or message with examples and/or evidence
On Occasion: Students will be working on projects within Social Studies or Science and the homework load for the time being will increase. Although during these times I will often cut from other homework areas to allow for quality time to spend on projects.
